Moto G5 Live Images Leak Ahead of MWC 2017; Specifications Spotted on Benchmark Site

Lenovo’s upcoming Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus have been leaked several times over the past few weeks. With leaked renders to live images, it is almost confirmed what the devices will look like. However, if there was any lingering doubts, a new batch of leaks has emerged that reveal the design as well as benchmark listing of the devices.

Moto G5 Live Images Leak Ahead of MWC 2017; Specifications Spotted on Benchmark Site

On Friday, specifications for the Moto G5 were spotted on GFXBench. Based on the listing, the Moto G5 running Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box will feature a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display. The device sports a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 505 GPU. The listing hints at two models – one with 2GB of RAM and the other with 3GB of RAM. The device will also likely be offered in 16GB or 32GB internal storage options.

These specifications are in line with last week’s leak by Spanish listing K-Tronix. However, while K-Tronix claimed a 13-megapixel rear camera for the Moto G5, the GFXBench listing shows 12-megapixel.

Meanwhile, the Moto G5 Plus is said to feature a 5.2-inch full-HD display, powered by 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC. The device is expected to pack 3000mAh battery with TurboPower charging, according to the most recent rumour.

Separately, some images of what looks to be the Moto G5 were spotted on OLX’s Brazilian site, according to AndroidPure. The images show the handset as well as the box it will likely come packaged in. One of the images show the device next to a battery (which means removable back panel), a pair of earphones, charger and the box itself. The listing has since been taken down.

Nokia 3310 Reboot Tipped to Run Series 30+ Ahead of MWC 2017 Launch

As we approach Nokia 3310 reboot phone’s launch at MWC 2017, more details about the device have shown up on the Internet. The new information suggests that the reboot of the Nokia 3310 phone will feature a colour screen and run Series 30 user interface.

Nokia 3310 Reboot Tipped to Run Series 30+ Ahead of MWC 2017 Launch

The new details about the Nokia 3310 reboot, provided by prolific tipster Evan Blass, suggest that the upcoming phone will run the Nokia Series 30+ user interface – last seen on HMD Global’s Nokia 150 that was launched in December, and as far back as the Nokia 108 in 2013. As previously anticipated, Blass adds the feature phone will bear a colour display, unlike its predecessor, which featured a monochrome screen.

Evan Blass aka @evleaks has further tipped that the feature phone will come in multiple colours with possibly swappable faceplates. To give a better perspective of how the phone shapes up, Blass has asked readers to imagine a mashup of original Nokia 3310 and the new Nokia 150, possibly referring to the classic phone’s form factor running the recent offering’s operating system.
A recent leak suggested that HMD Global, the company that currently holds the right to manufacture and sell phones under Nokia brand name, will now stray away too much from the design of the original Nokia 3310 phone to retain the sturdy form factor and bring out the nostalgia. As per the leak, the phone’s display will be larger and will be accompanied by a physical keyboard whose key size and structure will be changed from the original.

The Nokia 3310 reboot will reportedly be priced at EUR 59 (roughly Rs. 4,000), and will be made available soon after its launch at MWC 2017 on Sunday. It is expected to be made available in three colour variants – red, yellow, and green. HMD Global will reportedly partner with Carphone Warehouse to launch the new feature phone in the UK.

Besides the Nokia 3310 refresh, Nokia is expected to launch two budget Nokia devices – Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 on Sunday. Further, the company can possibly announce the global availability of the Nokia 6 smartphone.

Top Fashion Lessons For 2017 that you need to Learn

For beginners, it is important to go step by step to improve your style, learning aspects of fashion and how it affects your image.

Fashion means to wear that looks good on you, amplifying your best assets and hiding the ones that you do not feel good about. One should invest in clothing like blazers and pants that are tailored. These custom-fit clothes will make you feel more special when you wear it, since they fit you perfectly.

  • Denim Makes your Attire Casual Anytime

A good pair of jeans can always help in getting you up and going in the shortest time possible. You can just opt for a good top to go with it and you can nearly go anywhere, pairing them with shades.Skinny jeans can go with topsand can get your trendy look spot on.

  • Don’t Buy Trends that do not go with Body Type

As mentioned above, do not opt for trends that do not suit your body type. Fashion trends depend on you more than ever, and not vice versa. So if a girl can carry off bold or daring attire, it might be because it suits her body type. There might be multiple fashion trends doing the rounds but do not blindly follow them. If you see something that you think cannot work for you, then you’re probably right.

  • Take Care Of Leather:

  • If you find a perfect look, make it your signature look

iPhone 8 to Ditch Home Button for ‘Function Area’, Cost Over $1,000: KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

KGI analyst Ming Chi Kuo in a new note to his clients has predicted a few more things about the iPhone 8. In his note, Kuo reiterates that the iPhone 8 will ditch the home button for a full-screen design. This additional real estate will used to have a function area towards the bottom of the display that will bring virtual ‘always-on’ buttons to the iPhone.

iPhone 8 to Ditch Home Button for 'Function Area', Cost Over $1,000: KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

AppleInsider got hold of this note, in which Kuo explains in detail that the extra real estate at the bottom of the iPhone 8 will be used for system functions with dedicated buttons for each function. There’s not much clarity on what the ‘function area’ will bring, but Kuo suggests that Apple could introduce an always-on display with static system controls. The note suggest that this iPhone 8 static display could also have the capability to switch to active display when watching videos or playing game. However, this is all just speculation at this point.

Furthermore, Kuo states that the iPhone 8 will sport a 5.8-inch OLED screen, but will sport the form factor of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7. This is possible because the top and bottom bezels will now be gone, giving more real estate space to the iPhone 8.

Kuo also reiterates that iPhone 8 will ditch the dedicated Touch ID sensor, and Kuo believes that the iPhone 8 ‘will incorporate new bio-recognition assets to take over device security and Apple Pay authentication duties.’ This is in line with previous reports that claim Apple will introduce a new 3D sensing technology, which will be embedded in the display and be capable of reading fingerprints directly. A patent was also published about the same recently, further cementing the rumours that the iPhone 8 will introduce this feature. Even though a dedicated Touch ID sensor will disappear, the new and improved tech will retain the Touch ID branding.

Reiterating previous claims, says that the OLED variants of the iPhone 8 will be priced north of $1,000 because of 50 to 60 percent rise in production cost. The LCD variants will be priced cheaper.

Tech Giants Team to Battle Terrorism Online

Facebook has teamed up with Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft to fight the proliferation of terrorist content on the Web. The tech giants will create a shared industry database of hashes for violent terrorist imagery, terrorist recruitment videos, or images they have removed from their services.

They may use these shared hashes to help identify potential terrorist content on their platforms. Hashes to be shared will apply to content that’s most likely to violate all the companies’ content policies.

“Each one of the companies that is part of this agreement has its own specific definitions, practices and processes in place for governments to make requests to them for user data and to remove content,” YouTube explained in policy notes provided to TechNewsWorld by company rep Stephanie Shih. “Any such requests for information will be routed through each company to handle as they normally do per its individual policies and procedures.”

No personally identifiable information will be shared. There will be no automated takedowns of terrorism-related content. Each company will retain its own process for dealing with appeals against its removal of content.

The four will apply their own transparency and review practices when responding to any government requests.

Magnitude of the Problem

ISIS, or ISIL, has used the Web to great effect for the purpose of broadcasting its ideology and recruiting fighters, the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee said last year, noting that it then had 30,000 fighters, drawn from more than 100 countries.

All four of the tech participants that teamed in the latest initiative already have launched separate efforts to counter terrorist activities online, in some cases through other partnerships.

“Our existing efforts to counter extremism and terrorist content will continue,” Facebook said in comments provided to TechNewsWorld by spokesperson Alec Gerlach. “This agreement means that there will be more operational efficiency as we try and stop terrorist content from easily migrating between platforms.”

Each Player’s Battle

Twitter earlier this year outlined its policy, which includes deactivating accounts linked to terrorism groups, cooperating with law enforcement entities when appropriate, and partnering with organizations working to counter extremist content online.

Facebook earlier this year began offering advertising credits to some users combating terrorism online, and it began collaborating with the U.S. State Department to develop antiterrorist messaging from college students.

YouTube’s content policies strictly prohibit terrorist recruitment and content intending to incite violence, the company said. YouTube terminates any account if it has reason to believe that the account holder is an agent of a foreign terrorist organization.

Google parent company Alphabet this summer partnered with Facebook and Twitter to sponsor three experiments using videos to combat the spread of terrorist propaganda on their sites.

Google think tank Jigsaw this summer launched Redirect, a pilot project that aims to redirect people searching for jihadist information online toward counterterrorism content. Project Redirect is not involved in YouTube’s partnership with Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter.

Microsoft this spring outlined its two-pronged approach to the online terrorism problem: addressing the appearance of related content on its services; and partnering with others to tackle the issue more broadly.

Microsoft, Qualcomm Tuck Windows 10 Into ARM Devices

Microsoft on Wednesday announced the compatibility of Windows 10 and native Windows apps with ARM-based processors, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, which currently powers a large percentage of Android devices.

One of the highlights at this year’s Windows Hardware Engineering Community (WinHEC) event in Shenzhen, China, the new partnership will make it possible for Windows applications, peripherals and enterprise solutions to run on new mobile, power efficient and always-connected cellular PCs.

Through the collaboration, the companies aim to encourage hardware partners to develop Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Window 10 devices that run x86 Win32 and universal Windows apps. In addition to Microsoft’s own productivity applications, such as Microsoft Office, they could include third-party programs such as Adobe Photoshop, as well as Windows games, which are developed by numerous companies.

The applications would be the same as those meant to run on a desktop or laptop, but they would be fully compatible with cellular PCs — meaning that mobile users no longer would have to sacrifice functionality or features.

Evolution of the Smartphone

Microsoft largely was unsuccessful in its efforts to break into the smartphone space with its Windows Phone devices. Instead, it has pivoted toward cellular PCs, which will be built around the x86 code of Windows 10, utilizing the ARM architecture.

The process may not be as simple as actually running the apps directly on the small screen however.

“This continuum would allow you to plug a Windows 10 cellular PC into a dock, where it connects to a PC monitor, keyboard and mouse,” said Ian Fogg, senior director for mobile and telecoms at IHS Markit.

“To date, that experience has been hampered by the fact that x86 apps have had to run on a desktop processor,” he told TechNewsWorld. “This is suited so that the apps can run on a smartphone.”

That is not to say the user experience will be exactly the same as what one might find when using an actual desktop PC, however.

“The question is how quickly the applications run, and how much additional power they will use,” noted Fogg.

Types of Applications

Office, Photoshop and Windows 10 games all will be compatible.

“Microsoft called out those three because they are widely used — and in the case of Photoshop it is known to benefit from a lot of computing power,” noted Fogg.

“This could be an indicator of how the processor can handle these applications,” he suggested. “However, the question remains how well it will run. Running something like Photoshop or games at minimum level doesn’t offer the same experience as one might hope to have.”

Game On

Gaming does tend to require serious process power, often even more than Photoshop, but that is just one consideration that will need to be addressed. What hasn’t been explained is how the cellular PC platform will support video or sound.

“Initially, the impact on gaming will be minimal,” said Joost van Dreunen, principal analyst at SuperData Research.

“Qualcomm does not have a strong presence in the gaming market, but the emphasis in the period to come is clearly on improved visuals across the industry,” he told TechNewsWorld. “This year we already saw a big jump in visual processing power for PC gamers, for instance, and a substantial reduction in device power consumption.”

In the longer term, “porting Win10 to ARM would open the way for a bunch of gaming applications to come across more easily,” noted Roger L. Kay, principal analyst at Endpoint Technologies Associates.

“Typically, ARM would be lower power than x86, which bodes well for mobile battery life,” he told TechNewsWorld.

VR and Beyond

The integration between Microsoft and Qualcomm could provide greater efficiencies in the development of virtual reality, augmented reality and enhanced reality gaming applications.

“Existing VR programs could come across as well,” suggested Kay. “The port wouldn’t be entirely trivial, though — there are a lot of moving parts.”

The partnership “is unlikely to single-handedly skew the gaming landscape in either company’s favor out of the gate,” SuperData’s van Dreunen said, “but as we move closer toward augmented reality — a segment that is higher on Microsoft’s agenda than VR — we’ll start to see some promising collaborations between the two firms.”

Xiaomi Mi 5c, the affordable variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone, has been leaked on multiple occasions, and is even expected to launch sometime this month, ahead of MWC. Running up to the long-rumoured launch, the Xiaomi Mi 5c has been leaked again revealing processor information. Furthermore, a fresh Xiaomi leak also sheds some light on the rumoured Snapdragon 835 processor situation expected in the Mi 6 flagship.

Xiaomi Mi 5c Tipped to Be Powered by Snapdragon 625 SoC; Mi 6 to Sport Underclocked Snapdragon 835 SoC

GizChina reports that the affordable Xiaomi Mi 5c will be powered by the 14nm Snapdragon 625 processor. It is further expected to sport 3GB of RAM and offer 64GB of inbuilt storage. As for optics, the Mi 5c is tipped to sport a 12-megapixel sensor at the rear, and an 8-megapixel sensor at the front for selfies. The Xiaomi smartphone is said to pack a 3200mAh battery and run on MIUI 8 out of the box.

The 3c certification listing revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 5c will use a 5V/2A power adapter, which means that the Mi 5c will not support fast charging. The Xiaomi smartphone is tipped to come with really narrow bezels, and a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 2.5D curved glass protection.

Live images of the device have also been leaked showing us how the Xiaomi budget smartphone is supposed to look from all angles. The smartphone was first tipped to launch in December, but that didn’t happen, and we now expect it to see the light of day this month.

Xiaomi is also tipped to launch the Mi 6 flagship phone soon after, sometime in March or April. The big highlight of the device is expected to be the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC, but now a fresh leak hints that the Xiaomi smartphone is tipped to launch with a lower clocked version of the Snapdragon 835 processor. GizChina reports that the device will be clocked down to 1.8GHz. This is done typically to enhance battery performance and manage heat diffusion.

Past leaks suggest that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will come in two variants – one of which will sport a dual edged curved body and 6GB of RAM.

Microsoft Outlook for iOS Now Supports Add-Ins From Evernote, Giphy, and Others

Microsoft has announced support for add-ins from third-party applications in its Outlook email app for iOS. The first lineup of apps that are getting the support from Outlook are Evernote, Giphy, Nimble, Trello, and Spreadsheet. Additionally, the Redmond-based company has also made its own add-ins available for the Outlook app in the form of Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Translator. Microsoft says that the support for Outlook add-ins will soon be coming to Android as well.

Microsoft Outlook for iOS Now Supports Add-Ins From Evernote, Giphy, and Others

Notably, the support for add-ins was already available for users on Web, Windows, and Mac. The add-ins for Outlook, built using standard HTML and JavaScript, can be used by developers to extend their services to the users from right within the app. The company has also shared a simple set of instructions for developers who are interested in extending their services through company’s email client.

The Outlook for iOS add-ins can be accessed using an icon beside the “view more” option while reading any mail. “With the Trello add-in for Outlook, you can turn your email into actionable items, keep track of your projects and make sure important emails never fall through the cracks,” the company said in its blog post. After enabling the Trello add-in, users simply have to click the Add card to Trello action to associate any incoming email with an existing board, it added.

Outlook for iOS users can opt to reply to mails through GIFs using the Giphy add-in as well. Microsoft’s Translator add-in allows users to read any mail in the language of their choice. On the other hand, the Dynamics 365 add-in “brings together business applications with the best of Microsoft-in productivity, collaboration, intelligence and platform-to give businesses the right set of tools to grow, evolve and transform, the company said.

Considering that the new Outlook for iOS add-ins will provide more productivity options to the email client, this can definitely be seen as a welcome move from Microsoft. We will have to just wait and see how developers are able to make full use of this new support and provide users with more options via email client on their mobile apps.
